ONE WEEK DOWN!!

Riley Russell Mickelson
I can't believe Riley is one week already!

he loves daddy! (see those 2 spots on on the bed i tried to blur out? Riley decided to spit up and pee out his diaper at the same time...good thing i got a good picture before that happened haha)

The many blessings of how Riley finally arrived

It all started on Friday May, 18 (Riley's due date).

Blessing #1: Thayne's boss gave him the morning off so he could come to my doctors appointment with me.(Thanks Chris!) Thayne hadn't been to an appointment with me since we found out we were having a boy.

Blessing #2: My appointment was set for 10:20 am but i thought it was at 9:20, so we arrived an hour early. My doctor didn't have any pateints at the time so he was able to see me.  during the visit he checked the babies heart rate which was perfect, and then measured my stomach.  It measured 2 cm smaller than the week before.  I asked if that was okay and he said that maybe the baby has dropped.  He didn't seem worried at all, so I wasn't.  He then checked if i was progressing at all and I of course wasn't.  He then started discussing with us the whole being induced process since it seemed like we weren't having a baby that day.  he told us to make an appointment to see the ultra sound tech for either sometime that day,Friday, or on Monday, to make sure everything is still okay with the baby, and then we would schedule the induction for the following friday.  I left visiting with the doctor truly believing we still had a whole other week before this baby was coming.

Blessing #3: The ultra sound tech was able to see me right way. He told us that this was a pass or fail test.   If the baby even blinked wrong we would fail and be sent up stairs to have a baby. Everything was looking good in the ultra sound. Riley was a good size, his heart was beating, his lungs were working, everything about him looked great.  Then the tech measured how much fluid I had. He told us that I should measure anywhere from 5 to 25 and I measured at a whopping 2. Right then he looked at me and said, "you already failed". I guess I had a small leak of amniotic fluid for maybe a week and I didn't know. Because of that leak the baby was prone to infection and the sooner I had him the better. We then talked with the doctor and he told us that the hospital would be calling us to tell us when to come. Luckily we had the car seat and I packed some things for the baby and me(nothing for Thayne though) but other than that I was not ready to have a baby. Thayne and I then went to the bank, ate breakfast/lunch at Arby's, and then to locker 42 to buy Thayne a USU sweater because he was cold. The whole time we were waiting for the phone call from the hospital we just laughed. For the last 9 months we had been imagining the dramatic drive to the hospital, and now there we were running errands in Logan, waiting for someone to tell us we could go to the hospital.

at 9:20am I wasn't having a baby. By 11:20am I was in the hospital getting ready to have a baby

we had only been in the hospital a couple hours and thayne was already tuckered out

I look like heck
 Blessing #4:
Riley Russell Mickelson
7 lbs 8 oz 20 inches

After I had Riley we had to drop him off at the NICU to have testing done to see if he had any infections. The nurses told us that it would be about ten minutes then he would be able to come up to my room.
So Thayne and Riley stayed and I went up to my room where I was checked by nurses and then fell asleep. When I woke up, 2 hours later, there was no Thayne or Riley in the room. I was a little panicked but then was told they were down in the NICU.

Blessing #5: Riley had no infections. Even though Riley had no infections the pediatrician decided to put him on antibiotics for 2 days in the NICU just as a precaution. It was hard seeing him hooked up to all the machines.
only a select few were allowed in the NICU so the Mickelsons had to look at him through the window. They were so excited to see him. As soon as the nurse opened the blind to the window they came running.

yes thats Marty telling poems to the nurses

Blessing #6: Riley passed all of his tests, again, and we all went home at the same time!

Aunt carri came and conquered! She helped with Riley so much! Thanks Aunt Carri!! Riley (and Thayne and me) miss you and love you!

Uncle E would sleep at our house if he could

Grandma Diamond would sleep over too if I allowed. They just love this little guy!!

Riley doesn't like the light and covers his eyes all the time

Best birthday ever! I got to hang out with these handsome boys!

Riley is such a happy boy! We were so blessed to receive this perfect baby! We love being parents and can't wait for the many more weeks to come!

Riley's room and weekend fun!

So Riley's room is almost finished.....
Here is the dresser wall.  All I need is a changing pad and a couple little things and its all finished.

Yes we have an obsession with Utah State and shoes. Thayne made the wire shoe on the shelf and painted the football player

DRUM ROLL PLEASE!! dadadaddada              The Alphabet Wall!!

I love how it turned out. Some letters we already had, some we bought, and others I cut out. The "A" Thayne made for a school project (of course its an Aggie "A"). The "R" is framed for Riley. I modge podged some letters and painted others. I had fun figuring out how to coordinate them on the wall. hanging them was a little difficult because I was doing it by myself but after each letter I pounded on the wall to make sure the letter wouldn't fall...(just imagine what the neighbors were thinking when they heard all that pounding....haha).

These are the crib mattress sheets that I sewed.  They were super easy and I actually had fun making them. I am in no way a professional seamstress. I did get angry with the bobbin(don't know how to spell that)thread more times than I wanted to but I figured it out eventually....
It was just fun listening to music with my glasses on, the measuring tape around my neck, needles in my teeth and pretending to be good at it.
Left: blue and brown argyle.  Middle: words that say monster teeth.  Right: green with different color polka dots(my favorite)
This is some of Thayne's artwork I still have to hang on the walls
Thayne told me that he loves Riley's room and wants to put a chair in there so he can just hang out. We both can't wait to hang out with the little guy!

On Saturday we went to the revealing of the Utah State new logo. It was a press conference and a big deal because Nike helped design the logo and the new sports uniforms. Thayne loved it. He told me it was one of the coolest things he has been to.
The new logo. Thayne is not too impressed by it...

The President of Nike. (Thayne's future boss... haha)
he does like the new bull a lot though

The new Jerseys and uniforms
After the press conference we watched the blue and white scrimmage. And looky who we saw.....Kyler Fackrell, my sister Kimri's good friend from school.  He plays on the defensive line and is really good. Well I know nothing about football but Thayne and his brother Austin say he is Amazing! They are excited to watch him this season.

After the game we went driving in Logan up on the hill and saw our dream homes and this amazing view.
